A pub, licensed club or hotel can employ dozens of people across several departments. Each team does different work, but guests should see one venue. Planning the uniform as a set, with colours and logo placement agreed up front, makes that much easier.
For an overview of the wider sector, see hospitality and tourism uniforms.
Map out your departments
List each team and what it needs before you pick garments. A typical venue might have:
- Bar and gaming staff in shirts or polos, often black or a dark venue colour
- Bistro floor staff with waist aprons over the same shirt
- Kitchen staff in chef jackets and bib aprons
- Functions staff in a smarter shirt or blouse for weddings and events
- Reception and front desk staff in corporate uniforms
- Housekeeping staff in tunics or polos that allow plenty of movement
- Maintenance and grounds staff in practical workwear
Aprons and chef wear for the bistro are covered in more detail on our cafes, restaurants and bars page.
Use colour to show roles
On a busy Friday night, guests and staff both need to find someone in charge. Some venues give managers and supervisors a different shirt colour. Others add "Duty Manager" under the logo. Either way, people can spot a supervisor from across the room.
Names on shirts
Embroidered names suit long-serving staff, especially in a club where members know everyone by name. For venues with a lot of casual staff, a removable badge may be more practical, with the venue logo stitched on the shirt. Base the choice on how often your roster changes.
Embroidery is the standard decoration for venue shirts, because it stays neat through regular washing.
Accommodation and housekeeping
Hotel and motel housekeeping staff spend the day lifting and pushing trolleys. Tunics and polos with some stretch, plus comfortable pants, make the work easier. Darker colours hide marks from cleaning products.
Night staff on reception or the bottle shop need a jacket or knit in the same colours, so the look holds when the temperature drops.
Sub-clubs, events and merchandise
Licensed clubs often support member groups, such as golf, fishing, bowls or social sport. Each group may want polos or caps with its own name alongside the club logo.
Venues also run trivia nights, footy finals and themed events. A one-off run of staff tees with a DTF printed design suits those nights. Branded caps, stubby holders and bags can be sold at the bar or given to members through our promotional products range.
Rebrands and refits
If your venue is changing its name or logo, plan the uniform rollout around the reopening date. Our design team can prepare new logo files for stitching and printing. Most orders are completed within 10 business days, so leave time for proofs and collecting sizes before then.
