Transport work runs around the clock. A driver might start in the dark and finish in the rain at a customer's dock, with hours in a hot cab in between. The uniform has to cope with all of it. It also stands in for your business at every delivery.
Who you are dressing
Most transport and logistics businesses have a few distinct groups:
- Drivers, who sit for long stretches and then step out into yards, roadsides and customer sites
- Yard and dock staff, who work around reversing trucks and forklifts, often at night
- Warehouse teams, who need safety footwear and gear that suits lifting and picking
- Dispatch and office staff, who mostly need a tidy branded shirt
Start with the group that faces the most risk. Then build the rest of the range around the same colours and logo.
Seen in headlights and yard lighting
Yards, docks and roadsides are where visibility matters most. If your people work before sunrise, after dark or beside moving vehicles, day/night hi-vis with reflective tape is the type to look at. Depots and customer sites often set their own rules, so check what they require before you order.
Some drivers find a hi-vis polo more comfortable than a drill shirt on a long run. They keep a vest in the cab to throw on at a breakdown or a delivery stop.
Dressing for a whole shift
Weather changes over a long day, so plan layers:
- A breathable polo or lightweight shirt for hot cabs and summer runs
- A fleece or softshell for cold early starts
- A hi-vis rain jacket for wet days on the dock
The outer layer is what other drivers and forklift operators see. A plain jumper over a hi-vis shirt hides it. Portwest has a large range of hi-vis wet weather gear, and Bisley makes hi-vis shirts and jackets in women's and men's fits.
Branding drivers and couriers
For couriers and delivery drivers, the uniform is often the only part of your business a customer sees. A clear logo on the chest and a larger one on the back make your people easy to recognise at a front door or a security gate. Embroidery suits chest logos on polos and jackets. Adding the driver's name helps customers and site staff know who they are dealing with.
Office and dispatch staff can wear the same logo on a collared shirt. Our corporate uniforms range covers that side of the business.
Warehouse safety gear
Warehouse and dock staff need safety boots, gloves and sometimes eye protection. Add these from our workwear and PPE ranges to the same order, so a new starter receives everything at once.
Ordering for several depots
If you run depots in more than one city, we can supply all of them. We are based in Unanderra and send orders Australia-wide. Keep one record of garment codes, colours and logo files. A driver in another state then wears the same uniform as one in Wollongong.
Most orders are completed within 10 business days. Send us your team list or call 02 4228 3508.
