DTF is a fast, flexible way to put detailed, full-colour artwork on a garment. It handles photographic detail, gradients and fine lines that are difficult to stitch, and it works on a wide range of fabrics.
Each order arrives as transfers that are cured with melt powder and ready to press. You get everything needed to apply them in your own heat press, or we can apply them for you as part of a complete uniform order.
Getting good results
- Supply artwork in the RGB colour range.
- Avoid elements thinner than about 6 pixels.
- For black garments, knock out black areas of the design.
- Leave open areas in large designs for a softer feel.
Our process includes a small 0.8 mm choke on every print for a clean edge.
Not sure whether DTF or embroidery suits your job?
Tell us what you are decorating and we will recommend the better fit. Many orders use both: embroidery for a left-chest logo and a DTF transfer for a larger back print.
Common questions
- What is DTF printing?
- Direct-to-film printing prints your design onto a clear PET film using DTF ink, then coats it with adhesive powder. The transfer is heat pressed onto the garment, giving a soft, durable, full-colour result.
- What fabrics does it work on?
- Cotton, polyester, leather, silk, canvas, denim, neoprene and more, on both light and dark garments.
- What file should I send?
- Send artwork as a PDF by email or with your enquiry. We print it exactly as supplied, without resizing or editing, and we will come back to you with pricing.
- How do I apply a transfer?
- Cut out the print, position it on the garment and press with a heat press for about 10 seconds at 150 degrees Celsius. Peel the film, then press again for 3 to 5 seconds to finish.
